One of the conferences that I always wanted to attend is The Server Side Java Symposium. There aren’t many of these events where you can, in a very short period of time, get very valuable information critical for a Java architect. There are many interesting shows, but most of them are around a specific vendor, if you go to Mac World you don’t expect to see Linux applications, or a fair comparison between Mac and Ubuntu for a specific usage.
The Server Side Java Symposium is truly vendor independent. You go there and you can be sure to get independent top-level advice and comments without an obvious bias. Nobody is trying to sell you anything, isn’t that refreshing?
Imagine then how happy I was when I got confirmation that I will be one of the presenters at the next TSSJS next year in Las Vegas. I’ll get to shake hands with people that I respect a lot: Rod Johnson, Bill Burke, Reza Rahman and Mark Fisher just to name a few. I read books written by these people. I might even get some books signed by them.
My presentation will be about distributed development teams using agile methodologies. I’m sure I will have a lot of interesting material to present. After all, every agile methodology needs the developers to pretty much be in the same room (in some, even sharing the same PC). But at jBilling we, the developers, are all distributed and yet we do use agile methodologies.
These are going to be three very interesting days in Las Vegas. Getting to listen to what these people have to say, not to mention meeting other Java enterprise architects, can ensure to keeping you on the right technological track. See you there.
