jBilling is available under two licenses: the Affero General Public License (GNU) version 3, and a Commercial license.

The General Public License

By default, when you download jBilling and use it for free, you will be bound to the AGPL license. This license is OSI certified, and comes with some restrictions. An important one is the need to release any modifications or extensions of jBilling under the GPL license as well. Commercial License

Many organizations, companies in particular, do not wish to be bounded by a GPL license. The alternative is to buy one of our support subscriptions. These subscriptions come with a commercial license which does not have some of the GPL restrictions. Note that the are no difference in terms of functionality between the free AGPL version of jBilling and this version.
